Week 2: the games we play

My game group from yesterday played Cranium. There were all different cognitive tasks involved in Cranium. After all the game is called Cranium.. I definitely used perception when my partner, Sara had to move my arms like a puppet to get me to guess what she was trying to act out. She moved my arms in different ways, doing different things to get me to correctly guess what the word was. I used attention when Sara was telling me different traits of a movie star that i had to guess. Sometimes, she would tell me bits of information that weren't as important as others, and I had to single out the important information so that i could correctly guess. Reasoning was a big part of playing Cranium because we had to make decisions about how to act out our words in a very limited amount of time. There was no time for unnecessary movements. If this was a FRQ it would be worth 100 points because it's the only FRQ that we were assigned today... right..?
In Australia, a sample of violent men were taken into a cognitive psychology lab. The goal of the scientists was to use anti-violent cognitive processes to cause these men to become less aggressive and more calm. After using ART (agression replacement training) these adults learned new ways to deal with anger without hurting others or themselves. This displays learning, a subdomain of cognitive psychology. The adults used cognitive processes to condition themselves and learn how to kick their harmful behaviors. http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=a9h&AN=44653592&site=ehost-live

  1. I think a lot of my teachers need this ART training that you mentioned.

I definitely agree that reasoning is a big part in many games, in that you have to watch the people around you :)

  3. I love Cranium (even though I've only played it once)
But you should put some space between your 2 paragraphs, otherwise it's hard to tell

  4. I like how long term and short term memory are combined in cranium. You are combining things from the past into new and interesting manners.

  6. Hey! You're totally right! Cranium does need reasoning. And a lot of it as well. So why did the test subjects happen to be men? Lol. There are women with anger problems as well. Haha. I enjoyed reading your blog! See ya!
